Two local men are taking on the gruelling Mount Kilimanjaro challenge in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for not-for-profit care provider, Harrogate Neighbours.
57-year-old, Steve McCready, Director at Executive Lets and 51-year-old, Pete Gawtry, a personal trainer, are embarking on an epic 8-day trek, beginning on Wednesday 15thJanuary.
The duo are aiming to raise £19,340 – £1 for every vertical foot they will climb together for the Harrogate-based charity, which supports older and vulnerable people.
Pete said, “I lost my dad last year and I wanted to do something to honour his memory - he was such an important figure and role model in my life.
“However, I am terrified of heights so alongside the physically challenge ahead, it’ll also be a mental one for me to overcome.”
Steve added, “I also lost my mum last year – she was the matriarch to our large family and her absence has been really felt – particularly over the Christmas period.
